New campaign hounds dog owners to pick up after their pets

By Alan Pearcy | Posted: September 21, 2012
Every weekday, PR Daily associate editor Alan Pearcy highlights the day’s most compelling stories and amusing marginalia on the Web in this, #TheDailySpin.

Seems duty-free isn’t just the dream of travelers anymore. It’s also that of Brent Thelen Design’s “Dog Poo Mercenaries” who organized a new campaign to assail those “sh*tty” dog owners in the neighborhood to pick up after man’s best friend. “Their booty is your duty,” after all, so do your part and respect the sidewalk. Meanwhile, copywriter Deanna Director is on a mission to discover what agencies offer the best free food through #HungryCreatives, a new Tumblr photo project.

Speaking of new Tumblr accounts, before Jay Cutler takes to the field with the Chicago Bears this weekend, enjoy taking to Smokin’ Jay Cutler, described as a site “dedicated to the most apathetic looking athlete in the history of sports.”

While apathetic Americans continue ignoring the sport of cricket, 1.5 billion people around the world are tuning into the T20 Cricket World Cup.

TV audiences in the States must be too preoccupied watching “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.” If you can’t wait until the next new episode to get your redneck fix, relish in the newest nickname generator to hit Facebook. Just call me “Angel Piggy.”

As for an actual piggy, the adorable factor is set pretty high on this video of a petting zoo’s “hero” pig saving a distraught baby goat that had lost its footing in a pond (although it’s certainly no tear-jerking farewell to Glitzy):

A pig-saving baby goat sounds like the perfect inspiration for a Randy Newman song to a Disney flick. However, this time around the songwriter found his muse in politics, penning and releasing a new satirical song that pokes fun at the presidential race, as well as the race of the voters.

But now the hard-hitting electoral question: Who is Homer Simpson voting for?

Unemployment is a major factor—perhaps the major factor—in this year’s presidential election. Too bad neither of the candidates are spending much time in the U.S. city that is the mecca for underemployed college graduates and youth: Portland, Ore.

The trying economy doesn’t appear to be any imposition on the rich, who keep getting richer. Citing Forbes magazine, Reuters reports that the net worth of the richest Americans grew by 13 percent this past year to $1.7 trillion. That’s a lot of Jr. Frostys from Wendy’s.

Probably adding somewhere to that total are a few tech titans, who could use an acting class or two 10. From Foursquare’s Dennis Crowley to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Wired highlights 10 awkward Hollywood cameos by tech founders.

The Backstreet Boys make a pretty awkward cameo of their own in Old Navy’s most recent nostalgic throwback commercial. They’re no cast of “90210,” that’s for sure.
