While you might guess that most media outlets’ coverage of Target this week revolved around the resignation of its CEO
on Monday, there were perhaps just as many stories
hellbent on cracking the case behind the retail chain’s confusingly misplaced snack foods.
Instagram and Twitter photos have been popping up showing Doritos and Cheetos in some unlikely places.
Doritos have been spotted in the refrigerator section next to the cheese, sour cream and ground beef:
Target’s explanation? They’re promoting the “walking taco:”
Because actual tacos somehow prohibit mobility, a walking taco takes all the delicious taco fixings and plops them in a bag of crushed Doritos. Eat with a spoon, and (presumably) bask in your self-hatred.
Some other Target stores are doing some clever product placement with their own snack foods—placing the Cheetos and Doritos next to copies of popular video games:
As a fervent gamer myself, I can’t imagine using my cheesy fingers to touch a controller, but whatever moves product, right?
A Target spokesman had this explanation for The Huffington Post
“Target will often display products together to give our guests ideas on how to use the items and create a more convenient shopping experience.”
