Mizuno’s shoe sales kick up after Wendy Davis’ marathon filibuster

The Texas senator who filibustered for nearly 13 hours against a bill that would severely restrict abortion in the state made sure to wear comfortable shoes. People took notice.

Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) has given shoe company Mizuno an unexpected boost.

Davis, you may recall, filibustered a polarizing anti-abortion bill for almost 13 hours Tuesday. She wore a pair of $115 Mizuno Wave Riders during the epic session.

Since then, the shoe has risen to No. 2 on Amazon.com’s list of women’s athletic shoes. Comments on the Amazon Wave Rider page range from sarcastic (“Marathon shoe for marathon filibustering”) to politically charged (“Fits perfectly up a Republican’s rear end”).

Mizuno hasn’t released sales data, but it did say the Wave Rider page has recently become its website’s most popular page. And a company spokesperson released the following statement:
