Alabama minor league team cancels gun raffle

The Huntsville Stars were planning a “Second Amendment Night” promotion, but league officials warned against it.

The Huntsville Stars’ most recent promotion, however, ended with a whimper instead of a bang.

The AA team affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers recently canceled a gun raffle for its “Second Amendment Night” promotion.

A team spokeswoman said that Minor League Baseball officials advised that the promotion was not a good idea, though team General Manager Buck Rogers stressed to local news station WHNT that no guns were actually being given away at the stadium. Raffle winners would get certificates to pick up a rifle or a pistol from a local gun shop.

While the team insists its aim was to celebrate Americans’ right to bear arms, the local press isn’t buying it. From Al.com:
