Google apologizes for anti-gay slurs appearing in Translate app

When activists found the tool was spitting out terms such as ‘poof’ and ‘queen,’ Google acted quickly.

Google’s translation tool is facing criticism for offering offensive and homophobic translations for certain words.

A petition on the site AllOut has garnered close to 53,000 signatures calling for Google to change its tool, which had been translating the word “homosexual” to “poof,” “queen” and even worse.

Google addressed the problem quickly, and a spokesperson issued the following statement:
