Lack of food is one obstacle, as is a dearth of potable water in many places.
Absence of regular, reliable health care is yet another major problem facing mothers who seek to keep themselves and their children healthy. Diseases of all sorts ravage the continent. Many of them, though, are treatable and could be quelled—if not obliterated—were sufficient medical personnel and supplies available.

’s Fabric of Africa
website is in place to raise global awareness—and funding—to make Africa a healthier region of the world.
Fabric of Africa’s content and visuals helped it claim top honors in PR Daily’s 2013 Digital PR Awards in the Best Microsite or Custom Website category.
Compelling photos of physicians and nurses and the patients they treat, along with nuggets of information, give visitors ample reason to venture into the well-organized drop-down menus leading to easily navigable landing pages.
Programs, for example, can be filtered by topic or country. Events—notably “The Cape Town to Cairo Roadshow”—feature vibrant images and a map of the ambitious endeavor. Enhancing such massive scope with such detail helps visitors to understand the undertaking—and, more important, compels them to help out through donations.
We congratulate Orla McGouran, Georgina Michael, and the rest of the team at Philips Healthcare for its winning effort.
