Starbucks seems to suffer an annual bout of backlash when it releases its holiday design, and now McDonald’s is suffering the internet’s clever wrath.

The image made the rounds online: It was posted to the site REBRN and later to Reddit, followed by Buzzfeed.
McDonald’s even addressed the controversy publicly. Spokeswoman Becca Hary told Business Insider:
The altered image circulating on social media is the result of someone getting a little cheeky and adding some hand-drawing to a cup.
This is why we can’t have nice holiday cups.
