There have always been rumors and speculation about just what goes on in the kitchens of fast-food restaurants, such as whether the employees spit on the food. Social media has confirmed those fears, it would seem.
The latest example of a fast-food employee apparently doing something disgusting to food is this photo
, which hit Consumerist
and The Huffington Post
among other sites Monday, of a Taco Bell employee licking a stack of taco shells. The picture was originally posted to Taco Bell’s Facebook page Sunday:
In response to the photo, Taco Bell issued this statement:
"Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and team members, and we have strict food handling procedures and zero tolerance for any violations. When we learned of the situation we immediately contacted this restaurant's leadership and although we believe it is a prank and the food was not served to customers, we are conducting a full scale investigation and will be taking swift action against those involved."
Comments on the original Facebook post range from “That’s disgusting!” to defending the employee for not wasting expired shells. There’s also speculation about whether the photo is fake.

One commenter said, “I feel like if that kid is stupid enough to post pictures of himself in his work uniform while he's on the clock licking tacos, he's probably too stupid to have a job.”
This photo is just the latest in a string of incidents at fast-food restaurants have embarrassed the entire company. In 2011, two Domino’s employees recorded themselves sticking food up their noses
and posted it to YouTube. In February, KFC fired an employee
for a photo in which she almost licks a tray full of mashed potatoes.
