McDonald’s UK responds to leader’s call to ban Monopoly campaign

A representative for the fast food chain highlighted efforts to provide healthier options during the sweepstakes, saying: ‘Customer choice is at the heart of everything we do.’

McDonald’s in the United Kingdom is defending its annual Monopoly game after a politician lashed out, demanding it come to an end.

Tom Watson, the British Labour Party’s deputy leader and secretary of culture, media and sport, recently called the fast food chain’s popular sweepstakes a “grotesque marketing ploy”:

Watson’s tweet linked to an article in The Guardian, which highlighted a portion of Watson’s letter to the chief executive of McDonald’s UK, Paul Pomroy.
