For a cutting-edge technology company, Apple doesn’t have a very robust social media presence. That’s starting to change, in a rather unlikely way.
Try to find Apple on Twitter and you’ll see a couple of verified accounts for the App Store and iTunes properties, along with @Apple
, which has yet to send a tweet to its 26,000+ followers. Turn to Facebook and you’ll find some fan pages, but nothing official from the company. Pinterest? Nope. Instagram? Eh
. Google+? Ha.
What about Tumblr? Jackpot!
Apple has its first full-fledged, two-footed foray into social media with a Tumblr site. Digiday explains
This past week, Apple launched isee5c.tumblr.com, a Tumblr devoted to its colorful, low-cost version of the iPhone, the iPhone 5c. The page features several short animated advertisements for each of the 5c’s various colors, and hints that more animations will be unveiled in the near future.
Apple is working with TBWA/Media Arts Lab, which is maintaining the Tumblr account. The platform, which attracts a younger crowd (i.e. teens and millennials), is ideal for the 5c, which looks like the iPhone’s brash, experimental nephew.

Apple isn’t really saying much about the Tumblr site, and there’s no indication that this will mark a broader leap into social media marketing.
