This year, Google Chrome became the world’s most-popular Web browser. Countless community managers use the browser in their jobs. I’m among them, as I manage community pages for a couple of clients as well as work with the teams that do so for a handful of other companies.

With this experience, I compiled a list of 13 extensions for Google Chrome that will help community managers. For Chrome newbies, an extension is simply a feature you add to your browser. One of the most popular is the Facebook extension, which makes the Facebook experience simpler and cleaner on Chrome.

This list goes well beyond Facebook to spotlight extensions that are truly useful for community managers.

Scribefire

Create and edit blog posts in Chrome with this extension. It supports WordPress, Typepad, Blogger, and Tumblr, among others.

Awesome Screenshot

Grab screen captures and annotate them with this handy extension. Capture or clip selected area, then annotate it with rectangles, circles, arrows, lines, and text. It even has an eraser to blur sensitive information. It’s a great tool for community managers who have to share screen grabs from time to time and annotate them to customize.

HoverZoom

Cool little extension that lets community managers hover over images on a variety of social networks and view them at their full size without loading a new page. It’s a nice time-saver.

Image Search by Cooliris

This extension helps you easily surf the endless array of Google images with a 3-D view–all. How does this help community managers? I’ll often use Google images as a source of inspiration for a post, or to look for the kind of photo I want to use for a Facebook or blog post (then I’ll go find an image on Flickr, or create one).

Pocket

This handy little extension is a cross between Delicious/Diigo and Evernote. (If you’re an avid Evernote user, you can probably ignore this one). It enables you to clip and save just about anything you find online and store it in one, easy-to-find spot that’s accessible via laptop, tablet, or phone.

Evernote Web clipper

Great extension for Evernote power users. Enables you to save whole pages, or just highlighted sections of pages, directly to your Evernote account and notebooks.

Ginger

One huge issue for community managers is proofreading. When you kick out as much daily content as a community manager, you need to ensure you’ve dotted every i and crossed every t. This wonderful extension helps you do that in social networks such as Facebook as well as on multiple blogging platforms and Gmail.

Stay Focused

Another issue for community managers—one that most don’t like to discuss—is wasting time. Stay Focused is a great productivity extension because it automatically limits the amount of time you spend on the sites that suck your valuable time. Maybe it’s TMZ, or Pinterest (if you’re not working there), or Someecards—doesn’t matter. The extension is customizable enabling you to block entire websites or domains.

Lookup Companion for Wikipedia

Chances are, you spend a decent amount of time on Wikipedia each day. If that’s the case, this extension will help save you precious minutes. No need to open up new tabs for Wikipedia—this extension does the trick within your existing tabs.

Too Many Tabs

Community managers are notorious for having about 46 tabs open at any given moment. This handy extension enables you to navigate those 46 open tabs more effectively. Sort by when you created the tab, title, or domain, and restore recently closed tabs.

Google Dictionary

In this extension, you can click on any word on the Web and get an instantaneous definition. It could prove to be more efficient than running to Dictionary.com every time you have a question about a word’s meaning.

Rapportive

This is one of my favorite extensions, and I’ve been using it for a while. Through Rapportive, you can view information about your contacts—such as email address, social networks, and photo—right from your tab. The information helps you paint a better picture of who they are and where to find them online. What community manager wouldn’t want more information about key stakeholders who are emailing them within Gmail?

AddThis

This is a great extension that makes social sharing a breeze through one-click sharing, in effect. It supports nearly 300 different social networks, including all the major U.S. networks.
