Ever heard of Wendell Potter?
He’s one of the PR industry’s staunchest critics, and his book about corporate PR,
Deadly Spin, won the
Ridenhour Book Prize, awarded to “an outstanding work of social significance.”
Potter worked as a PR exec for two the nation’s largest health insurance firms before making a career 180 to become the industry’s foremost detractor.
Deadly Spin was released last November and has steadily gained interest among the PR community and beyond, although the PR world hasn’t exactly welcomed Potter’s criticism with open arms.
Edelman chief Richard Edelman had a more critical take,
which he published in November. Potter responded in
The Huffington Post, asking, “Must ‘Ethical PR’ Be an Oxymoron, Richard Edelman?”
Both are good reads if you missed them the first time around.
