PlayStation customers furious over delayed response to hack

The company waited six days to inform its users that someone had accessed their personal information—and now it’s getting ripped by customers.

It’s been a week since its PlayStation Network went down. Though many customers praised the company early on for its frequent updates about the outage, it appears the tide is turning against Sony.

The company has disclosed that information from PSN user accounts was accessed. It would later follow up to explain the lag in letting its customers know about it. By that time, though, significant damage had been done.

On the PlayStation blog, Patrick Seybold, senior director of corporate communications and social media at Sony, posted a letter to users that said:

“Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID.”

The thing is it took six days for Sony to inform its users that their information had been stolen. As you might imagine, this revelation didn’t sit well with many users.
