Google News to feature content chosen by humans

By Susan Young | Posted: August 5, 2011
What’s that you smell on Google News? Why, it’s a whiff of humanity.

“Google News is introducing a new section to its U.S. edition: Editors’ Picks, a display of original content that journalists (human ones!) have selected as editorial highlights from their publications,” writes Megan Garber on the Nieman Journalism Lab website.

The catch here is that Google won’t be tapping humans to sort content. Publishers will “spotlight” selections they believe have lasting value. So far, some 25 news organizations—including Reuters, ProPublica, MSNBC.com, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Root—are on board.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a story you pitched land on this list?
