PR Newswire has published new guidelines
for news releases in an attempt to ward off spammy content.
If you use its distribution services, be sure to heed these guidelines:
• Don’t overload your release with keywords.
• Be sure there is substantial content in the body of your story.
• Though boilerplate information is acceptable, you should avoid repetitive, templated copy from release to release.
PR Newswire already has guidelines in place regarding authenticating who is submitting the news release and verifying sources.
So why has PR Newswire instituted these new guidelines? There are two reasons.
One, the company wants to be sure that information it is distributing is high-quality content.
Second, it’s a response to Google’s latest search algorithm update. PR Newswire and other news release services have seen a significant decrease in Google rankings for news releases
they have distributed.
The bottom line? Write and share valuable, not spammy, content, and do not try to game the system. It’s as simple as that.
