Twitter and Facebook aid in Hi-C’s ‘Ecto Cooler’ comeback

Internet users’ collective inner children rejoiced this week after Cola-Cola brand managers announced the once-popular green drink will hit shelves in May.

If enough people rally around a product online, brand managers might just respond in their favor.

Anyone who brought their lunch to school between 1989 and 1997 should be familiar with Hi-C’s Ecto Cooler. Now with a forthcoming “Ghostbusters” movie—and plenty of encouragement on social media—the brand’s parent company, Coca-Cola Company says it’s bringing the drink back.

The once-popular juice box flavor resurges a direct style of marketing, as the “Ghostbusters” character Slimer is displayed proximately on its packaging.

After Coca-Cola reps announced the Slimer’s return this week, a “Resurrect Ecto Cooler” Facebook page rejoiced, taking at least partial credit for the return:

The drink will be available for purchase beginning May 30 in juice boxes or aluminum cans.
