Philip J. Crowley resigned over controversial remarks he made about WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning. He also sent two ill-advised tweets.

Crowley said he submitted his resignation due to the “the impact” of controversial remarks he made about the U.S.’s handling of WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning.

Last week, Crowley told an audience in Massachusetts that the treatment of Manning was “ridiculous and counterproductive and stupid.” The White House was “furious” about the remarks, according to CNN. But did Crowley’s Twitter use also lead to his ouster?

Crowley, a veteran PR pro, tweets frequently, and it’s landed him in hot water on at least two occasions.
