However, it’s not easy to reach so many members with a single tweet. How do you use Twitter in your social media marketing to effectively reach and gain new customers?

Here are learn three ways to hashtag and tweet effectively:

1. Build a strong, targeted audience.

You should value quality over quantity in your Twitter audience. A small, targeted audience works best. You can always build up.

Fill your audience with followers who actually care about your product or service. Start by following these audience members on Twitter.

Once you follow someone with similar interests, most likely they will follow you back. Search for these users by interest so you find more followers.

Also search for followers by looking through their post topics, keywords, hashtags or any company mentions. Follow them as well.

2. Start the conversation.

Despite what some celebrities might have you think, Twitter was not created solely for self-promotion.

Like Facebook, its goal is to start conversations so you learn more about your fellow conversationalists. By doing so, you learn more about your demographic than you ever could from buying histories or bounce rates.
