4 ways social media management is like a dance party
It may not seem like an activity that involves sitting in front of a computer has much in common with grooving on the dance floor, but they definitely have a few similarities.
I am a big fan of dance parties. With an almost-2-year-old under my roof, dancing breaks out pretty much any time we turn on the music. As we were twirling around the living room the other day, I started thinking about how social media management is like a dance party.
Don’t see the correlation? I’ll connect the dots for you. 1. You have to make the time. If you want a really good dance party, you have to take the time to put a killer playlist together, invite a few friends over, and clear away the dance floor. Similarly, you need to make the time for social media management. A music playlist won’t make itself, and your Facebook and Google+ pages won’t update on their own.
2. It’s important to find your style. When I dance, I include a lot of arm movements and big gestures. My daughter stomps her feet and spins in a circle. Not everyone has the same moves. Although there’s nothing wrong with mimicking what you see someone else do, in both dancing and social media management, it’s important to stay true to yourself and your business. Think about what you want your brand’s personality to be and build your social media strategy around it.
