7 tips for a successful press event
An announcement from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg highlights how to have a disaster-free presentation.

This slide show of the “Anatomy of a Bloomberg Announcement” highlights some of the steps the Bloomberg team took to ensure a successful, disaster-free event. Here are some of the best tips from their event, with pictures via The New York Observer.
1. Choose your venue carefully. Will it be easy to find? How will it look in photos and on film? If it rains will you have to cancel? The Bloomberg team staged the event at City Hall and used the pillars to frame their logo.
2. Keep your set up neat. You don’t want people tripping over equipment and disrupting your event. For the Bloomberg announcement they had a shield for their equipment, making it obvious that it was off limits and making everything look much neater.
3. Communicate with staff or volunteers. Things go far more smoothly at events when everyone understands his or her role. The Bloomberg team had walkie-talkies, but you can easily exchange cell phone numbers with fellow event staff and discuss duties prior to the event.
