8 tips for creating mobile-ready content

News flash: In the online content realm, mobile is toppling the desktop.

A new study by the Pew Research Center found that among the 50 most popular news websites and their associated apps, mobile traffic outpaced desktop traffic for 39 of them.

“When it comes to the amount of time a visitor spends with a digital news brand, however, the desktop computer still holds sway,” Pew says.

For only 10 of the top 50 digital news sites and their associated apps, mobile visitors spent more time per visit than desktop visitors did, the Pew study shows.

In light of the Pew study — as well as Google’s much-discussed algorithm update for mobile content — here are eight insights about how to step up your content-marketing game in the mobile age.

1. Understanding your audience is key.

When considering your mobile-friendly content, don’t overlook the audience. Are your mobile visitors looking for short snippets of information or longer-form content? Who are your competitors in the mobile environment? What value does your content bring to mobile visitors?
