J-Lo’s ‘slip’ and other dubious Oscar moments that burned up Twitter

The Academy Awards inspired more than 3 million tweets and Facebook posts—many of them thanks to these incidents.

The number of tweets and Facebook comments about last night’s awards more than tripled from the previous year. According to BlueFin Labs, there were 3.4 million Oscar-related comments compared with 966,000 in 2011.

Three dubious moments from the show accounted for a share of those tweets and comments:

The (possible) J-Lo wardrobe malfunction. Was that subtle brown smudge on the left side of Jennifer Lopez’s dress a nipple or a shadow? If you ask Twitter, it was the former. When Lopez took the stage with Cameron Diaz to present an award for Best Costume Design, it appeared Lopez was experiencing a costume malfunction, causing #JLO’s to become a trending topic. Her stylist said it was no malfunction, just a shadow. Either way, the incident birthed a new Twitter account: @JLosNipple.
