It is Social Media Day, a sort-of Hallmark holiday created by Mashable in 2010 to encourage people to step away from their computers and gadgets and meet people in person. What a novel concept.

America’s national pastime might be more than 150 years old, but it’s adopting cutting-edge ways to engage fans. Through the use of various social media platforms, MLB is giving away prizes to fans who “like,” tweet, and check in today.
