Peahen escapes from Bronx Zoo, immediately starts Twitter feed

On Monday, a peahen—that’s a female peacock—went missing, less than two months after a cobra got loose. More than 1,000 Twitter fans later, a social media star is born. UPDATE: The fugitive peahen has been captured.

In March, a cobra went missing from the zoo—later to be found in the reptile house—sparking a popular Twitter feed (an account which has since been suspended). On Monday, a peahen escaped from the zoo, and, of course, someone started a Twitter account in its name, confirming that peafowl do, indeed, tweet.

The BronxZooPeacock—peahens are female peacocks—has more than 1,000 followers on Twitter. On Tuesday night, it offered this advice to other animals.
