Fans have purchased advertising on billboards to urge teams to fire their coaches (Wake Forest, for example), to spur coaches to play certain quarterbacks (Broncos fans to John Fox: Play Tebow!), and, of course, to needle fans into buying tickets to games (the University of Tennessee’s plea features a disembodied arm).

In keeping with that tradition, a couple of sports-related billboards have made news this week.

First up, a pro-marijuana group purchased space on a billboard near Denver’s Mile High Stadium to promote its weed-friendly stance. The group, called the Marijuana Policy Project, argues that the NFL is driving players to drink by punishing them for smoking marijuana, which is now legal in Colorado.

Check out the billboard and read a few statements from the group behind it here.
