Amy Pascal steps down as Sony’s co-chairman

The motion-picture studio’s chief announced Thursday she would no longer be its co-chairman, but will work with the company as a producer.

It wasn’t the hack itself as much as what the hack revealed: inner workings of the studio along with Pascal’s private (and not-entirely appropriate) emails. The correspondences included a passage where she joked with producer Scott Rudin about President Barack Obama’s movie preferences.

Pascal, who will remain with the company to launch “a major new production venture,” said in a statement:

I have spent almost my entire professional life at Sony Pictures and I am energized to be starting this new chapter based at the company I call home. I have always wanted to be a producer.
