Apple experiences ‘PR hell’ in Beijing

Scalpers helped turn the debut of the iPad 2 into a public relations nightmare for the company.

After people lined up for hours on Saturday to purchase the iPad 2 and the white version of the iPhone 4, scalpers immediately turned around and began offering the devices in the mall where they were purchased.

Then things got worse. From The Globe and Mail:

“The day descended even further into PR hell as store security moved to bar a man they believed to be a scalper after spotting him trying to dodge the long line and sneak into the store for the third time that day. After a scuffle between store security and the man, Apple staff decided to shut the store, leading several in line to shake the glass door until it shattered. Four people were reportedly injured in the melee.”
