Chick-fil-A feels heat from franchisee’s online wildfire

An all-you-can-eat nuggets deal spread across Facebook and Twitter, and excitement built nationwide. The catch: Only one Florida location was offering it.

You want your promotion to catch fire on social media, right?

Not so fast. You have to make sure the fine print isn’t too fine, or the dream could become a nightmare.

Online mentions of a special deal for all-you-can-eat Chick-fil-A nuggets spread quickly through more than 100,000 shares on Facebook and countless tweets on Twitter.

The trouble was that it was good at only one location, in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida.

The restaurant chain has more than 1,900 locations in 42 states and the District of Columbia.

Oops.

The owner of the franchise in question used Facebook to tell customers about the special offer, slated to run Friday, Oct. 30, from 5–9 p.m. Eastern time. The deal included all-you-can-eat nuggets, waffle fries and a medium drink for $12.99.

Managers of the official Chick-fil-A Twitter account worked to eliminate the confusion:

@kylanw12 Thanks for asking! This is a local promotion hosted by our St. Pete Beach location only. Have a great day!
