Audi admits that 2.1 million vehicles have emissions-skirting devices
As Volkswagen’s crisis continues, its luxury brand announced affected vehicles. Investors wonder whether the automaker will survive the scandal.
On Monday, Audi announced that roughly 2.1 million Audi vehicles have the software designed to skirt emissions tests by producing false results. The vehicles are part of previous estimates; Volkswagen recently admitted to installing the devices in 11 million diesel vehicles worldwide .
Of the 2.1 million Audi cars affected, 1.42 million are in Western Europe. Nearly 577,000 affected Audi cars are in Germany, and about 13,000 are in the United States.
“We’re working at full speed to find a technical solution,” Audi spokesman Juergen de Graeve said in a statement. “Once we have that solution, we’ll write to customers and we’ll upgrade the cars so that they’re within emissions regulations.”
