For the first time, more people get their news online than in print

According to Pew’s State of the News Media report, 46 percent of Americans get their news online at least once a week, compared with 40 percent who read newspapers.

The one grabbing headlines this morning is that more people are getting their news online than in print—a first for the media industry.

According to the report, 46 percent of Americans say they get their news online at least three times a week, compared with 40 percent who cite newspapers. Local TV news remains the most popular platform, at 50 percent.

The report said that 41 percent of Americans cite the Internet as the place they go for “most of their news about national and international issues.”
