Gov. Christie squashes spider; PETA hits back

The New Jersey governor killed an arachnid while speaking to school children in his office, prompting the animal-rights organization to sound off.

The 26-second video included with the tweet shows Christie tiptoeing toward his desk and slamming down on it with the palm of his hand. According to the Associated Press, Christie told the visiting fourth-graders that being governor meant you could kill bugs on your desk and get away with it. He may have been wrong about that, though.

Many of the responses to Christie’s tweet did seem pretty good-humored. One tweeter joked that the governor will be the villain in the next Spider-Man movie.
