Hot news for TweetHeads: Twitter switches URL shorteners

If you access Twitter on the Web, and not a desktop application like TweetDeck, then when you paste a long URL into the dialogue box Twitter automatically shortens it. Twitter did rely on TinyURL, the industry leader, for its Web address shortening—until Wednesday, when it switched to Bit.ly.
