IHOP beating goes viral; restaurant chain mum so far

It’s the third instance of a fast-food melee on YouTube in the last week. IHOP has yet to respond. Should it?

I’d use the word “shocking” to describe this type of footage, but it’s becoming commonplace, and I’d be surprised if very many people are shocked by such images anymore.

Such was the case on Wednesday morning when, featured prominently on the Drudge Report, there was another story of a beat-down at a fast-food restaurant.

This time it was IHOP.

Video footage shows a cop slapping and then punching a woman, dragging her to the ground and handcuffing her. It doesn’t project the family-friendly image that I’m sure IHOP would like to convey.

Last week, it was a pair of McDonald’s fracases. The worst involved a transgender woman who was beaten to the point where she lay convulsing on the floor as an employee (now former employee) stood over her while filming with a cell phone camera. The victim is calling it a hate crime.
