I’ll take ‘Good Public Relations’ for $1,000, Alex

A computer is playing as a contestant on the game show “Jeopardy” this week. It’s a fun, fascinating, and intriguing story. It’s also a PR coup for the game show and IBM, which built the computer.

But there is already another pair of winners in this story: the PR pros at Jeopardy and IBM, the company that created the supercomputer Watson. Judging by the popularity of any number of man-versus-machine Hollywood movies, people love this type of conflict.

HPC Wire breaks down IBM’s angle in this:

“Although the Jeopardy contest is just a PR demonstration, IBM has its eye on moving the technology into the commercial realm for things like business intelligence, financial analytics, medical diagnostics, and a host of other lucrative applications.”
