Communicators at SAS create internal Web site to showcase company green initiatives
A solar farm, recyclable café products and motion lighting sensors are a few ways that a software company with 10,000 employees worldwide is trying to save the planet.
With an uptick in media coverage on green issues, SAS employees began to ask communicators what the company was doing to be green.
Communicators decided to use an internal Web site to notify employees about green projects, engage them and solicit feedback.
The SAS Green Initiative Web site launched on Earth Day 2008 to showcase company green initiatives, allow employees to suggest ideas and offer tips to be green at work and at home.
“It’s given us a jumpstart to do more than what we are already doing,” said Lisa Arney, manager of internal communications.
It has received more than 1,600 hits so far, but some hits were missed because the counter was added after the launch, Arney said.
