Is Lower Manhattan the center of the media universe?

The area is, or will soon be, home to more than 60 media companies.

Well, the days when spittoons outnumbered women in the newsroom is long over, and, according to The New York Times, it’s been decades since lower Manhattan has seen a heavy media presence. Although that seems to be changing, the Times reported.

“But as financial firms stream out of the neighborhood, taking advantage of lower commercial rents uptown, the current lords of journalism — now known as ‘the media’ — are pouring back into downtown offices,” the Times wrote.
