The number of tweets and Facebook comments about last night’s awards more than tripled from the previous year. According to BlueFin Labs, there were 3.4 million Oscar-related comments compared with 966,000 in 2011.
Three dubious moments from the show accounted for a share of those tweets and comments:
The (possible) J-Lo wardrobe malfunction. Was that subtle brown smudge on the left side of Jennifer Lopez’s dress a nipple or a shadow? If you ask Twitter, it was the former. When Lopez took the stage with Cameron Diaz to present an award for Best Costume Design, it appeared Lopez was experiencing a costume malfunction, causing #JLO’s to become a trending topic. Her stylist said it was no malfunction, just a shadow. Either way, the incident birthed a new Twitter account: @JLosNipple.
