It’s crucial for PR pros to network.

Networking can bring both short-term and long-term results with new talent, sales and ideas, so it’s surprising that 25 percent of people choose to not network.

The practice’s path was once attending an event, meeting people and exchanging business cards, but social media and technology offer faster and better results through MeetUp groups, LinkedIn, Alignable and niche-focused events.

This enables people to create their own best practices. The personal nature of networking lends itself to differing preferences, too.

For the 60 percent of people who are shy, building a virtual rapport using email and online resources is popular. However, research shows 84 percent of networkers prefer face-to-face meetings, so digital conversations should pivot.
