9 unforgettable TV commercials from the ’90s
A great decade deserves great commercials—and by great we also mean commercials that are so bad they’re good. Here’s one writer’s picks for the best/worst television ads of the Clinton era.

The 1988 single from Poison would play a profound role on how I—a product of the ’80s—would experience the next decade. It was the decade when I came of age, and my experiences during the Clinton (and Bush 41) years can best be summarized in these nine commercials
Like a rose, these ads have an undeniable allure—despite their many, many thorns.
1. Gap: “Dress You Up in My Love.” Oh, for the love of tech vest. I secretly hoped to be in one of these commercials—though I suppose, the secret’s now out. This commercial was among three Gap ads from the ’90s; “Khaki Swing” and “Mellow Yellow” were the other two. Choosing the best of the three was difficult.
2. Mentos: “Pinstripes.” Not even wet paint can keep this suit from staying fresh.
