MCI commercial predicts email will kill U.S. Postal Service—in 1983
An outrageous idea 30 years ago, not so ridiculous today.
To avoid bankruptcy, it’s proposed billions in cuts and facility closures, citing the “financial challenges caused by the dramatic and continual decline in First-Class Mail volume and the resulting revenue loss.”
Of course, the culprit behind its demise is the Internet and email.
Some are predicting the ultimate death of the USPS—a notion that may have been ridiculous only a few years ago, but one that’s picking up steam in the media.
Now imagine how ridiculous such a claim would have been in 1983.
