NPR profiles ‘gay guru’ of PR

In its latest installment on the public relations industry, NPR interviewed Howard Bragman—the go-to PR guy for celebrities who come out of the closet.

He is called the “gay guru.”

Bragman said he got his start in the industry working at a small PR firm in Chicago, telling NPR:

“I’ll say really from the first week I was in PR, I loved it. I loved PR because there was a bit of the Wild West—you could write your own rules.”

He launched his own PR firm in Los Angeles in 1989 and has since represented a slew of gay celebrities, among them “Family Ties” star Meredith Baxter, who came out to Matt Lauer of the “Today Show.”
