NYT public editor asks PR people to weigh in for column

Arthur S. Brisbane, the public editor at The New York Times, has asked readers and PR pros whether the industry is a ‘bane or boon’ to the paper.

After giving a public scolding to New York Times tech critic David Pogue for speaking to communication professionals, the paper’s public editor Arthur S. Brisbane is now asking PR pros to chime in about the benefits they provide to the paper.

In a recent blog post, Brisbane—who said he might write a column on the topic—addressed readers, asking them whether it’s bothersome that Times reporters rely “to some extent” on PR pros for story ideas.

He also asks PR professionals directly:
