Pepsi brand managers bring back aspartame

Though the product is being marketed as ‘classic,’ it wasn’t too long ago that the soda company changed it formula to remove the controversial sweetener from the popular beverage.

Sometimes consumers want what isn’t necessary “good for them.”

Despite the potential adverse health effects linked to aspartame, Diet Pepsi is introducing a version of its product that contains the controversial artificial sweetener.

Roughly a year ago, brand managers announced they’d replace aspartame with sucralose and emblazoned their cans with the phrase, “Now Aspartame Free.”

It seems that Diet Pepsi drinkers greatly preferred the taste of aspartame because shortly after the switch, The Wall Street Journal reported that Diet Pepsi sales fell more than 10 percent in first quarter 2016.
