PR industry exposé lands major literary award

Former health-care PR exec Wendell Potter’s book Deadly Spin captured the 2011 Ridenhour Book Prize.

He’s one of the PR industry’s staunchest critics, and his book about corporate PR, Deadly Spin, won the Ridenhour Book Prize, awarded to “an outstanding work of social significance.”

Potter worked as a PR exec for two the nation’s largest health insurance firms before making a career 180 to become the industry’s foremost detractor.

Deadly Spin was released last November and has steadily gained interest among the PR community and beyond, although the PR world hasn’t exactly welcomed Potter’s criticism with open arms.
