Pressure for Apple to pull ‘anti-gay’ app intensifies as a scientist joins the fray

The PR firestorm for Apple continues over an iPhone app that offers ‘homosexuals strugglers’ information on how to cure themselves. When will the company respond?

Apple gave the app a 4 rating, meaning it has “no objectionable content.”

Organizations and individuals are objecting—loudly.

Truth Wins Out, a nonprofit that works to combat the “ex-gay myth,” has helped lead the charge with its vocal criticism of Apple. There is also a petition on Change.org that’s amassed more than 128,000 signatures.

Now, a scientist has joined the debate.

University of Minnesota researcher Dr. Gary Remafedi wrote a letter on Monday asking Apple founder Steve Jobs and interim CEO Tim Cook to remove the app. Remafedi claimed that Exodus International distorted his work in an effort to misrepresent homosexuality and confuse the app’s users.
