Publicity. Stunt.
The performer M.I.A. made a lewd gesture and uttered an obscenity during the Super Bowl halftime show, prompting an apology from NBC.
Not when Madonna literally slipped—she did a fabulous job, otherwise—but when M.I.A., one of the pop stars with whom Madonna shared the staged, flipped the camera her middle finger.
She also uttered the phrase, “I don’t give a sh**.” The screen briefly blurred after she flipped the bird, something that didn’t go unnoticed by Twitter users. (You can watch the action here.)
M.I.A. enjoys being controversial and this was nothing more than a publicity stunt to spark buzz. It is, however, a lame way to make headlines.
