Starbucks debuts its 2015 holiday cup

The poppy cup with an ombré design drew cheers from some fans, and jeers from those who said it’s debut is too early.

Listen up, hombre—this year’s official holiday color is poppy with a two-toned ombré design. So sayeth Starbucks and its annual holiday cup.

The coffee chain debuted its ubiquitous red cup in 1997, and ever since it has signaled to the overcaffeinated set that the holidays are upon us.

“We have anchored the design with the classic Starbucks holiday red that is bright and exciting,” Starbucks vice president of design and content Jeffrey Fields said in a statement. “The ombré creates a distinctive dimension, fluidity and weightedness.”

The company’s holiday seasonal drinks will be served in the red cups, so if you see one, there’s probably something pepperminty in it.
