Survey: 73 percent of small and mid-size companies use social media

And yet email remains the most popular way for these businesses to connect with customers, according to survey results.

A new survey by Constant Contact reports that 73 percent of SMBs are using social media to promote themselves.

Of those SMBs using social media as a means to promote their businesses, 81 percent expect their social media marketing efforts will increase this year. More than that—82 percent—report that Facebook was effective for marketing themselves. That number is up nearly 20 percent from just six months ago.

Still, email remains the most common tool for SMBs to connect with customers. From the Constant Contact blog:
