Good communicators know the best content is as succinct as possible.
To quote an infographic from SumAll and Buffer, “Every piece of content should be as long as it takes to convey the message and no longer.”
The infographic, titled “The ideal length of everything online,” details how long online content should be. Here are some examples:
Facebook: 40 characters. Posts with 40 characters receive 86 percent more engagement than posts with more than that amount.
Blog headlines: 6 words. People tend to only read the first and last three words of a headline.
Email subject lines: 28-39 characters. Subject lines that fall within this range average a 12.2 percent open rate and 4 percent click rate.
YouTube videos: 3 minutes. The average length of the top 50 YouTube videos is 2 minutes and 54 seconds.
Podcasts: 22 minutes. Podcast listeners won’t tune in any longer.
Domain names: 8 characters: The best domain names are short, easy to spell and remember, and don’t have hyphens or numbers.
