“What were they thinking?” is also on the minds of many journalists after Slate.com announced a handful of layoffs, which included veteran media critic Jack Shafer.

Elsewhere, Steve Jobs isn’t the only one getting media coverage with his resignation letter. Former Vice President Dick Cheney announced that he signed a secret letter of resignation shortly after taking office in 2001 that he kept in a safe. Much like Jobs, Cheney says the letter was due to concern over his health.
